After an extraordinary 72 hours — exactly three full days — of non-stop sports viewing, ESPN Zone Chicago crowned a three-time champion in the 8th Annual Ultimate Couch Potato competition. Jeff Miller of Chicago emerged as this year's champion, defeating a tough field of die-hard sports fans. The competition, which began at 10 a.m. on New Year's Day and wrapped up at 10 a.m. on Monday, January 4, challenged four Chicagoland residents to see who could watch the most continuous hours of televised sports.

For his stamina, Jeff won a grand prize package worth more than $4,000, including: a $1000 gift card toward the purchase of an HDTV; an XZipIt recliner chair with the team logo of his choosing; payment to cover one year of his cable/satellite bills; $500 ESPN Zone game card; $500 in ESPN Zone gift certificates, and ESPN Zone's Ultimate Couch Potato trophy.

Placing second, and sitting for an amazing 66+ hours himself, was Juan Hernandez of Chicago; third was Jerzy Jaworski of Chicago; and fourth was Josh London, of Wilmette, Ill.

The competition rules were simple: Competitors sat in DreamSeat recliners in the front row of the Screening Room facing a wall of 12 42-inch HD plasma TVs and one 16-foot HD projection TV, all showing non-stop sports programming. Participants ordered unlimited food and beverages; however, they could not sleep or leave their chair and restroom breaks were permitted once every eight hours.

To become a contestant in the ESPN Zone Ultimate Couch Potato competition, hopefuls had to send an e-mail to ESPN Zone and, in 200 words or less, explain why they should be selected as a contestant. Finalists were selected based on their passion for sports and the ESPN brand, competitive spirit, and creativity.
