Meet the 2009 ESPN Zone Ultimate Couch Potato Champions

Couch Potato

Baltimore:

Jessica Mosley, an education coordinator from Arlington, Virginia, won Baltimore’s first-ever Ultimate Couch Potato competition - outlasting Bel Air, Maryland resident and data collector Alex Pyzik – almost three full days after the competition kicked off Thursday morning at 11 a.m. ET. Mosley set an unofficial Guinness World Record with her 70-plus hour performance, besting Suresh Joachim’s 2005 mark of 69 hours, 48 minutes.

Chicago:

Jeff Miller, a real estate business owner from Chicago, won his second straight Ultimate Couch Potato competition early Friday morning – outlasting Chicago police detective Marco Acevedo who surrendered at 1:02 a.m. CT. Miller needed a staunch effort to hold off Acevedo, watching 39 hours, 2 minutes and 25 seconds of televised sports to win Chicago's seventh annual event.

New York:

Stan Friedman, a research librarian from Manhattan, won his second straight Ultimate Couch Potato title at ESPN Zone in Times Square Friday morning after watching 19 hours, 48 minutes and 18 seconds worth of continuous sports. Stan beat Brian Schatzel, a Long Beach, NY native, in New York’s second annual event.

Congratulations to our 2009 Champions!

Baltimore

Dennis B
From: Owings Mills, MD
About Dennis: The Baltimore native is a hardcore Orioles and Ravens fan who wants to break the stereotype of couch potatoes for the better. Burgos’ goal is to beat the current Ultimate Couch Potato record and celebrate by taking his son to Disney World.

Craig M
From: Hampstead, MD
About Craig: Craig attends as many Ravens and Orioles games as he can, but considers his couch his favorite place to watch the games. When he was stationed in Korea during his service with the Army, he’d stay up in the middle of the night to watch his favorite sports back in the States.

Jessica M
From: Arlington, VA
About Jessica: Proud to be her company’s first female fantasy sports participant, commissioner, and champion, she goes the extra mile for her favorite teams including the Tennessee Volunteers and the Indianapolis Colts.

Alex P
From: Bel Air, MD
About Alex: Alex and his family were featured in the Baltimore Sun as the ultimate sports family 10 years ago. Alex, a former soccer player at St. Mary’s College of Maryland, is a self-proclaimed lean, mean sitting machine and watches the Ravens for days on end.

Marco A
From: Chicago, Ill.
About Marco: A die-hard Bears and Bulls fan, the Chicago Police Detective balances his sports watching with two jobs with a newborn baby boy. As Marco hasn’t had the chance to be a couch potato since college, he’s happy to assume the position once again.

Steve J
From: Niles, Ill.
About Steve: An avid marathoner (has competed in several Chicago marathons and wore a Chicago Bears flag while running the Green Bay marathon), Steve believes his endurance training will make him this year’s champion.
